Safe, Thriving and Connected: Generational Change for Children and Families
Throughout April and May, the Northern Territory Government and Reform Management Office held briefings about Safe, Thriving and Connected: Generational Change for Children and Families in regional centres across the Northern Territory.
Following the release of the plan in Darwin on 20 April, Minister for Territory Families, Dale Wakefield continued to inform stakeholders and service providers about the NT Governments plan to fix the broken systems and hosted forums in Katherine, as part of the Justice Reinvestment Katherine Workshop and in Alice Springs.
Minister Gerry McCarthy led the discussions in Tennant Creek and Assistant Minister for Young People, Ngaree Ah Kit, addressed representatives in Nhulunbuy.
More than 200 stakeholder representatives attended the four forums and heard from the Ministers and Assistant Minister about Safe, Thriving and Connected the Northern Territory Government’s plan to reform child protection and youth justice and respond to the recommendations of the Royal Commission.
At the forums, the Ministers and Assistant Minister outlined the level of commitment and involvement required from all levels of Government, the service sector and community to achieve the changes and responded to questions and comments from attendees. Key discussions from all forums was around effective engagement and ensuring that the reform is appropriately tracked and measured to ensure it has been meaningful.
The Reform Management Office will continue to engage with stakeholders across the Territory and provide regular updates on how the reform is tracking, which agency is leading each program and project and identify opportunities for stakeholders to be more involved with contributing to the reform.
